Geocache Description:

World Wide Flash Mob (IX) 1:00pm - 1:15pm

Saturday, June 9th, 2012

"We came and Phooned !"

"What's a phoon, or a flash phoon for that matter ?"
PHOON THE SOUND
Take note of the pose above (in fact, go ahead, click on the phoon, and check out all the amazing poses other people have sent in!). You can practice in front of the mirror, get pointers from a friend, even take timed photos of yourself, all in preparation for this event. As a group we will Phoon together.

The Urban Dictionary defines this term : (verb) To Phoon is to do a pose in a "running man" position. To stand motionless on one foot, tilted forward at the waist, with one bent arm held in front and the other bent arm held behind.
The first recorded Phoon was struck by John Darrow in 1980, for a handful of that summer's family vacation photos. He nicknamed the pose "Phoon" (pronounced "foon"). "Phoon" was a made-up word that just sounded funny, and had no connection to any other word.

It's a MWOG event

open to everyone

A 15 minute mini-event hosted by
"RickOnTheRange" and "The Happy Bee"

Last year, our event "WWFM VIII - MWOG's Bubbles by the Bay" was part of a WWFM record
- 9,940 attendees world wide, at 215 different events in 25 different countries !
Congratulations ! - Can we do it again ?

Yes We Did !
15,386 attendees - 31 different countries - 312 events - 8 in Ontario
and 1 here in Owen Sound

This event is coordinated world wide to take place at 10:00 PDT (1:00 pm local).

Sonny and Sandy of the PodCacher podcast came up with the WWFM idea after attending a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event. These caching events are intended to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.

Itinerary for this MWOG event:
- 15 minutes (exactly)
- Act like a muggle before the event
- Approach GZ about 12:59pm
- Rick and The Bee signal 1:00pm
- Sign the Log
- Enjoy a WWFM Tradition snack
- Exchange TBs and coins
- Draw for FTF and prizes
- "Phoon the Sound"
- Take a group photo
- A quick CITO
- Rick and The Bee signal 1:15pm
- Everyone leaves the area
- Have fun!

WWFM V – May09 – 7000 people at 154 events in 20 countries
WWFM VI – Nov09 – 7000 people at 152 events in 21 countries
WWFM VII – May10 – 6000 people at 139 events in 19 countries
WWFM VIII – Jun11 – 9,940 people at 215 events in 25 countries
WWFM IX - Jun12 - 15,386 people at 312 events in 31 countries
WWFM X - May 4th, 2013

We received a special GroundSpeak WWFM Souvenir for everyone who logged an "Attended" for the event. Thanks also, for posting a "will-attend" log in advance, so we could be sure to have enough snacks for everyone. The "traditional Flash Mob snack" is a Hersey's Kiss.
And Special thanks to TripleLs for her quick response answers - Well done !
There were a limited number of WWFM IX geocoins and travel tags produced, and they sold out quickly, but I was able to secure a couple travel tags. Both were given away as "door" prizes to lucky Flashers.

Come join us at Kelso Beach Park along the shore of Beautiful Georgian Bay. The 9th annual "Family Fun Festival" will be happening around the park (11am-3pm), so vehicle parking could be at a premium.
If heavy rain comes our way, we hope to meet on the Summerfolk stage, under the shelter.
