Geocache Description:

In August 2012 the UK Mega Event is coming to Cartmel in Cumbria. This casual meet is one of the early events in an extensive set of supporting event being held around the Mega Event. It is hosted by Duncan (duncscott) and supported by other members of the North West Mega Event Team.

Cartmel :
The historic village of Cartmel, one of the oldest villages in Cumbria, vividly retains much of it's ancient charm and atmosphere. The ancient village of Cartmel is famous for the 12th Century Priory, with its beautiful stained glass windows, modern sculptures, and ancient choir stalls.

Cartmel was traditionally part of the county of Lancashire, but boundary changes in 1974 amalgamated it into the newly created county of Cumbria.

At the village centre stands the characterful old square, with its market cross and house with projecting upper floors supported by stone pillars. There are a variety of interesting shops and traditional pubs on the square and in the narrow winding streets leading from it, are a variety of ancient and interesting buildings. On the market square is Cartmel Village Shop, home of the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Cartmel

When & Where :
Sunday 5th August 2012 from 16:00pm until 20:00pm (or later!) in Cartmel village square next to the market cross, water pump, and fish slabs. For campers, this is within easy walking distance of our camping location at Cartmel Park.

There are three traditional coaching inns within a stones thrown of the market cross each providing a great welcome and offering a superb variety of food and drink. It is our intention to visit each pub and sample some of their character and hospitality – how much is up to you !

How quickly you tour the pubs is up to you but we envisage being around until at least 20:00pm.

Please post a “will attend” if you plan to join us and remember to keep visiting the North West Mega website for the latest information on the UK’s 5th Mega Event in 2012.

Driving Directions

Please do not aim for the event coords on your Car Sat Nav, as this may take you on the narrow village roads. Use postcode LA11 7SE which will take you to the vehicle entrance.
The event will be signposted by Yellow AA Road Signs.
