Geocache Description:

Groundspeak has officially proclaimed April 21st & 22nd, 2012 the 10th Annual Cache in Trash out Weekend.

Tulsa Area Geocachers will be participating in this world-wide effort for the 10th year.

Saturday, April 21st
9 am to Noon (or later if warranted)
Cousins Park, 121st & Yale Ave. in Tulsa

Working with Tulsa City and County Parks Departments and Riverside Parks Authority we will be picking up debris in the Cousins Park Area.

Just remember:
1. You will get dirty.
2. You will smell things not meant for man nor beast.
3. And you will absolutely have a blast doing it, I guarantee.

Arrive at 9am for sign-in and final instructions. We will gather up at about 11:45 to compare our trashy stories and take a group picture. We are planning on having a dumpster provided by the City for the event. Trash bags will also be provided.

You will want to bring: one or more pair of gloves, sunscreen, extra water, snacks, bug spray, poison ivy wash and any number of pokey, grabby trash collecting utensils. You may want a camera, too. Dirty cachers and trash are very photogenic.

Located in south Tulsa, Cousins Park is relatively undeveloped, but that is scheduled to change and as local geocachers we can have a visible role in helping this project along as we give back to our parks departments for all letting us play in their yards.

The Cousins family donated 10 acres at the southwest corner of 121st Street and Yale Avenue to the Park and Recreation Department in 1998, with the stipulation that it remain a conservation area and that the family be involved in the design for its use. The city purchased 32.8 more acres bounded by 121st Street, Yale Avenue and the Arkansas River. In October of 2011 the Tulsa City Council approved $245,000 from the general fund to begin the improvements for Cousins Park. This will let them begin work on phase one for what will be Cousins Park. That includes an asphalt parking lot, a crushed stone trail, and a small, elevated wood observation deck. They want to leave the park along the Arkansas River as natural as possible with native plants and native flowers. At some point in the future they do hope to have trails that connect Cousins Park to the River Parks system.
