Caching on The Kenai - 4th Annual Picnic Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

SSO JOAT: Another summer hath passed by and we lay another very successful event to bed. While we dream of joining the Mega status someday, planning for next summer's 5th Annual Picnic is already underway with targeted weekends of either July 13-14, August 3-4, or August 10-11. It will be next Spring before I can nail down the exact weekend due to that dreaded work schedule flux. See ya'll there!

Geocache Description:

Come one, come all, to the 4th Annual Kenai River Picnic!

Join us for a potluck picnic lunch featuring BBQ burgers and hotdogs provided by GeocacheAlaska! and cooked up by grill-master SSO JOAT on Sunday, July 29th. Please bring a picnic-ready side dish to share with the crowd, as well as your own favorite beverages. Please, no alcoholic beverages as this is a family activity in a public park.

This year's picnic is in the City of Kenai at the Kenai Municipal Park's South Pavilion overlooking the mouth of Kenai River. Access to the park is via the Kenai Spur Highway, through the City of Kenai and turn left (south) on South Forest Drive. Follow Forest straight to the end. The park is on the left and the pavilion is visible from the street behind the basketball court and volleyball field

We recommend car-pooling if possible to allow ample room for parking. There is some parking at the end of the street (about 50 yards from the pavilion) and there are about 10 parking spots in front of the picnic pavilion itself. Once those areas are filled up, parking will be at the north end of the park with a longer walk.

From our location there are spectacular views of Cook Inlet and we'll be at the heart of the Personal Use Salmon Dipnet Fishery. From our vantage point high up on the bluffs, we'll be able to watch the fun-filled chaos down below.

Plan to spend most of the day as we'll have plenty of fun-filled activity in store. Speaking of stores, the official GeocacheAlaska! merchandise store will be onsite throughout the event. You can pick up some cool GeocacheAlaska trackables, pathtags, and other geocaching items.
