This is a CHALLENGE Cache. That means that in order to log your cache find on Geocaching.com you must complete the requirements set forth by the cache owner.
Cache IS located at the above coordinates.
The Whereigo cache type seems to be a very innovative way of incorporating a game into the game of Geocaching. It apparently is VERY popular in European countries however Whereigos are not terrible popular here in the United States.
Because of this, whenever Team SERIOUSPanik is caching out of the State of Maine, we look specifically for these original cache types, and general enjoy them.
My favorite Whereigo so far, has been Dunbar Dan which is located in a mountainous community south east of Pittsburgh, PA. GC2QQW4
Part of the reason Whereigos are not as popular in the US is that to create the "cartridge" to play the game with, was a very cumbersome process. I had originally planned to make this cache a Whereigo however I found that all the work I had put into it was not saved, and that the Groundspeak Guidelines governing cache types, made it clear that a Challenge cache MUST be of the Mystery/Puzzle/Unknown cache type.
In order to be allowed by cache owner, you must meet the following requirements. You must have found at least 3 Whereigos in the State of Maine OR 5 Whereigos in 5 separate U.S. States, Canadian Provinces, or Sovereign Nations. This means that if you found a cache in 3 U.S. States, in 2 Canadian Provinces, and 1 in any other Country, you qualify. But you may not count your caches found in the U.S. or Canada towards finding them in a Sovereign Nation. For example using the example above, this does not mean that you have found Whereigo caches in 3 states, 2 provinces, and 3 Sovereign Nations. You may not count the U.S. finds or Canadian finds towards being a separate Sovereign Nation in this requirement.
As of March 17, 2012, there are four Whereigo caches in the State of Maine.
I myself have completed this Challenge with 10 Whereigo caches found total, including them in 5 separate states, however I have 3 Whereigo finds in Maine which completes the requirement.
I am hoping that this Challenge may re-ignite the interest in Whereigo caches and inspire more people to design and place them. Our local expert on Whereigo design is Marcipanek. Contact him for any questions on how to start designing your very own Whereigo....!
This particular cache is a well hidden micro cache containing a log only, located on a public walking trail/bike path in Portland, Maine where there are several other Geocaches located nearby.
Now... back to the drawing board on my very OWN Whereigo cache!
