Geocache Description:

KYLERHEA VIEWING HIDE
Arguably the finest place to see wildlife on Skye.

At Kylerhea you have a better chance of spotting an otter in the wild than almost anywhere in Britain. But it isn't just otters that you might find here; there are common and grey seals in these straits, along with passing minke and killer whales on rare occasions. Pine martins inhabit the woodland, deer roam the hills, and a wide range of birds flit about the trees.

Please do not drive beyond the car park,
and ensure that as you approach the hide you keep noise to a minimum.

There is no charge for visiting the hide.

From the hide you can look out for not just otters, but seals, dolphins and other wildlife, too. There are binoculars available at the hide, but if you have your own do take them with you.

Opening times The car park, hide and toilets are always open, although the toilets may be closed at times during the winter, when there is a risk of freezing. The toilets are on the path to the otter hide, around 400 metres from the car park.

Disabled access There is a small car parking area for disabled visitors nearer to the hide. Call 01320 366322 (out of office hours, call 07887 626914 or 07887 626054) to get the combination for the lock on the barrier at Kylerhea car park. This allows you to drive along the gravel track to within 250 metres of the hide.

Access from the parking area is down a sloping gravel path which has one steep section - access for wheelchair users is possible but not easy.

The cache, just across a wide bridge, lies above the viewing hide, on a top trail which, if followed beyond the cache site, will lead on for some distance further - a delightful walk. Take the left-hand trail as you approach the hide.

I am grateful to the Forestry Commission (Skye) for permission to place this cache.
