Geocache Description:

A micro-tour between Cambridge and Charlestown.

You must sign the log in the final cache container to claim a "Found it"!

You are visiting the North Bank Bridge, a newly constructed bicycle and pedestrian bridge, officially opened on 2012/07/13. It spans over the Millers River, four MBTA Commuter Rail tracks, and under the Interstate 93 (I-93)/U.S. Route 1 (US 1) of the Zakim Bridge, conveniently connecting East Cambridge's North Point Park and Charlestown's Paul Revere Park, and the entire surrounding neighborhoods including the North End, and Somerville.

North Bank Bridge

At 698ft/213m, it's the longest bicycle and pedestrian bridge built in Boston, and is the first of three footbridges designed to increase access to parks and green spaces around the Charles River Basin. You can read more about the bridge planning and construction at Bridge Design & Engineering Report: "Twist & Turn" [PDF link]. For the planned map, see this [image link] , both links courtesy of The Charles River Conservancy. For bicyclists, here [image link] is another convenient map. Also, a very nice time-lapse [YouTube video link] of the construction.
More reading: "Geometry Lesson - Modern Steel Construction" [PDF link], "Composite-decked pedestrian bridge deck links Cambridge and Charlestown, Mass." [Web link].

From here you can see many famous things of Boston and of Cambridge, along the so-called "Lost Half Mile" of the Charles River:
The amphibious "DUKW" splashing & landing
The Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge (or Zakim Bridge)
The TD "Gahden"
The New Charles River Dam
The Bunker Hill Monument
The Museum of Science, Boston
The Lynch Family Skatepark

Finding legal parking could be difficult on both sides, yet could have a higher possibility around the North Point Park on the Cambridge side.

Congratulations to gw0143 for another FTF!!!
