Tredegar Nosey Parker 2 Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

lefthanded99: Unfortunately it seems that the Council have no plans to replace the Life Trail Stations which were an integral part of this multi-cache, and there does not appear to be anything else suitable. So after almost ten years, I’m afraid it’s time for this one to go.

Geocache Description:

A chance to appreciate another of Newport's parks. This cache originally required you to walk approximately 0.5mile (0.8 kilometres), but then the Park Authorities confounded us by moving the LifeTrail Stations closer together, so now it is a much shorter walk. It is all on tarmac paths on level ground so it is totally wheelchair and stroller friendly, however wheelchair users will have problems reaching the final cache.

Tredegar Park Lifetrail Stations.

Tredegar Park suffers from something of a split personality. Split, that is, by the A48. To the North of the A48 is the area now known as Tredegar Park, while to the South is the larger Tredegar House and Country Park. Both parts were originally part of the estate of the Lords Tredegar (the Morgan family), with Tredegar Park being gifted to Newport Borough Council around 1900 whereas the House and Country Park remained in the ownership of the Morgan family until 1951. Between 1951 and 1974 the premises were used as a school before being finally sold to Newport Borough Council in 1974.

For this cache, our interest lies in the smaller Tredegar Park. This is a well-used park, with several football pitches, rugby pitches and tennis courts. There is ample parking at the park entrance. There is a large children's playground but regretably no regular refreshment facilities.

In the centre of the park are a series of exercise stations known as the LifeTrail. There are nine of them, but they are no longer numbered as they were when we originally placed the cache, so take the eastmost (i.e. nearest the car park) as No 1 and the westmost as No 9.

The co-ordinates should take you to the last of these (No.9) which deals with Stretching. Look for the side that deals with Hamstring Stretch - how many seconds should you hold this position = A.

Walking back towards the parking area, find the next LifeTrail station (No. 8) which deals with Upper Body Stretch & Strengthen. How many times should you repeat the exercise on Level 1 = B.

Carry on back towards the parking area. Ignore station No 7, and find the Bench Stepper (No.6). For the Bench Stepper exercise Level 1, how many times should you step up = C, then how many seconds should you rest = D.

Now follow the path back towards the parking area. Feel free to exercise at stations 5, 4 & 3, then head for LifeTrail Station No.2, which has one face dealing with Healthy Eating. What is the lower level of recommended daily fibre intake = E.

Now find a bench (there are plenty about) to work out the final co-ordinates. The cache can be found at N51 34.((2*A)+(2*D)+B+C+E) W003 01.((5*D)+(6*A)-C). You will need to bring your own writing instrument.
