It foretells the real life story of two sisters who lead all women dressed as soldiers during a Burmese invasion. As you drive through the city of Phuket you can visualize Two Heroines Monument.
The full-size statues of heroic sisters, Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Soontorn, carved side by side on this adorned marble pedestal positioned at Tha Rua. Constructed by local residents it was allowed for public viewing on 23 May 1967. In order to pay a tribute to these brave sisters an annual fair commemorates the bravery of these two girls who were instrumental in the defeat of the Burmese in 1785. By disguising hundreds of women in army uniforms and marching them through the town, they tricked the opponent into believing that they were troop reinforcements from Bangkok. This eventually compelled the Burmese to depart.
