Durbanville Nature Reserve Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

PieterM: I checked today and there is no place left to place a cache after the fire. The whole area has been burned and it will take a while to grow back. I am sorry to archive this cache but there is no other option. [:(]

Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in the Durbanville Nature Reserve. The reserve is open daily from 07h30 until 16h00 and the whole family can enjoy looking for the cache. Please note that the reserve times have changed. During winter the reserve is closed over weekends. You can park inside the reserve.

Two rare plant species, indigenous veld types, short hiking trails, bird watching and picnicking are the main attractions of the Durbanville Nature Reserve.

The 6ha (15 acre) Durbanville Nature Reserve, located in the heart of Durbanville, is unique despite its diminutive size, as it’s set in an endangered indigenous veld environment, where renosterveld coastal fynbos and mountain fynbos grow together.
In 1966 local residents found a rare plant, Aristea Lugens, growing there and persuaded the Durbanville Town Council to proclaim a reserve. It also serves as a transition zone between the renosterveld and sandveld fynbos. Serruria bronii is another rare and endangered floral species that has been identified in the confines of the reserve.

The cache is a loc-n-loc container and is placed next to the path so there is no need to trample the area. There is a logbook and pencil inside as well as swag I collected from other caches to trade.
