Geocache Description:

The Cache

The cache container is currently a 35mm film pot. You will need your own pencil. Please take care to replace the cache exactly as you find it.

The Bourbon Tower was originally used as a gamekeeper's lodge. It was renamed in 1804 after the exiled French royal family, who were living nearby. It has also been used by the Buckinghamshire Yeomanry as a mock fort during military exercises. Judging by the state of it now, they managed to hit it.

Please note that the tower is undergoing structural repair the cache has been moved to make it more accessible but at the same time allow you to view the tower at its best. The tower site itself has uneven terrain with sudden drops which can be hidden by the undergrowth.

Stowe

The new caches have been placed with the kind permission of the National Trust at Stowe. The National Trust took over stewardship of the site in 1989 and has been restoring it ever since. You can find out more about the National Trust's excellent work at the Stowe National Trust Website.

Ground Rules

Stowe is a National Trust property therefore there are limited opening hours. Please do not attempt to gain access when the site is closed. Details of opening times are published on the website.

In particular please note that the parkland is open from dawn until dusk, so please do not attempt this cache when it's dark.

The caches are all in the parkland and are therefore free to access.

The National Trust charges a small fee of around £2/day for parking at the New Inn (free for NT members if you have your sticker in the car). Parking is also available on the north side at the old entrance. This is currently free. A new car park is being developed at Home Farm on the north side, which will eventually replace the old car park up by the school.

Please do not park anywhere on the site other than in the designated parking areas.

The total walking distance around all of my caches starting from the Visitor Centre at the New Inn is around 7.5 miles (12km). Please note there are no facilities in the parkland.
