You've seen them - those consecutive daily geocaching challenges: 100 days straight, 150 days, 365 days of finding geocaches - accomplish that feat, and you've completed the challenge.
Well, here is one more incarnation of the infamous 'ironman' challenge...
The 'numbers run' is a popular challenge in some circles, especially in regions near extensive power-trails.
Both this challenge cache and the
Ironman Bingo Challenge were created to mark the completion of my own 366 consecutive days of geocaching challenge...
...but with a twist!
How long can you go?
How many geocaches can you find
within 24 hours?
While this cache IS at the posted coordinates, your challenge should you choose to accept it, is to find at least 100 geocaches and have them logged and dated for one 24 hour period.
Your caching day must begin at 12am, and end at 12am, local time.
RULES!
The 'numbers run' game has seen many debates regarding proper rules, guidelines, procedures, and what may or may not constitute cheating.
THIS listing is not making any statement on existing held records, or rule-sets determined by anyone before this time. However you wish to complete
this challenge beyond the following basic rules, it's up to you and your conscience!
Due to the nature of log verification, the rules for logging this challenge as complete are:
- Your cache run must occur after Fe 26, 2012 (get it? Iron? Fe? February? 26? :)
- Have at least 100 consecutive geocache finds logged and dated for one 24 hour period (one day as per your profile stats).
- Find and log the physical geocache located at the posted coordinates for this listing.
- Teaming up is allowed, but in your find log summarize your day and how you attacked the challenge; if you set out with a group, identify all individuals.
- Only your account's logged Finds (smileys) sharing the same date can be claimed for the challenge.
A bit more about the goal...
Here are some guidelines to remember for
this challenge, which should help it to remain fair for all who accept it. Please do your best to abide by these guidelines, since obviously they are not verifiable:
- If using a vehicle, please use only one to transport people
- Any team size is allowed, up to what fits safely in one vehicle if used (while remaining safe and abiding by all rules of the road)
- Cache logs may be signed individually or under a team name, HOWEVER, if a team member has previously found some caches on your list that other members have not, their claimed count for the day will be fewer - only one find log per geocache per cacher.
I recommend keeping a tracklog for your team and including a trip summary with your find log (ideally, the tracklog would indicate visitation to each cache claimed). Summarize your day, your experiences, how you accomplished the challenge. Outline anything you may have done to help accomplish your goal (for example, pre-running a route, pre-locating caches, how many caches have already been found by team members, etc).
SAFETY FIRST!
Recognizing this can turn into a race, please consider these safety recommendations:
- Have a backup vehicle with supplies
- Carry food and water for the day
- Plan ahead! Map a route, make note of possible stops for bathroom and emergencies.
- Take extra batteries, car power adapters, extra tires, a first aid kit
- DO NOT put people in danger for the sake of a find.
- OBEY all applicable laws
INCENTIVES!
While only
100 caches are required to log this challenge, this listing will be updated with a leaderboard of accomplishments.
Tiers to claim:
- Centennial: 100 caches (minimum requirement)
- Bicentennial: 200 caches
- Tricentennial: 300 caches
- Flwyddyn, the Ultimate Ironmarathon: 365 caches within 24 hours
- Fero-Cevalo: The current record holder(s).
The physical container:
The physical container for this challenge cache IS located at the posted coordinates, just off the
Ironhorse Trail in Kitchener. The listed terrain is rated 3.0 based on the challenge, but the terrain at the container itself is more like a 2.5. [9/18/12: Hint updated] During spring/summer it can be much harder to spot the container; it's much easier to see when there's less foliage! I may add a photo if there is still excessive difficulty.
Remember: This listing can only be logged Found once you can claim at least 100 finds in one day
AND have signed the logbook in this physical cache. If you completed the challenge in a group, you still need to visit and sign this log under your own name.
