Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES. NOTE: Cache is at 45 08.something 93 14.something. The original writeup was incorrect. The cache site has not moved.

"The Drunken Bee Dance" refers to the odd path a geocacher may take when following his or her GPSr when close to Ground Zero. Receivers are often not sensitive enough to lead directly to posted coordinates when close, and GZ may appear to jump around in an erratic manner. It is named after the method bees use to communicate to the hive the location of pollen-bearing flowers.

Below is a grid showing the "Drunken Bee" dance I performed recently searching for a geocache. Imagine the 5x5 grid below as the area around a cache--ie, the cache is actually in one of the 25 cells. The cell marked "1" is the first cell I checked for the cache. I moved erratically throughout the grid, from one cell to another, searching for the cache. Each time, I moved from the cell I was searching to an adjacent cell which I had not yet searched. The new cell was adjacent horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Unfortunately for me, I wound up having to search all 25 cells before I finally found the cache in the last cell.

On the outside of the grid are the numbers 2-25. Each of these numbers lines up with a row, column, or diagonal. That number appears somewhere in that row, column, or diagonal. As an example, the 2 is lined up with the NW-SE diagonal.

Outside the numbers are the letters A-E and V-Z. These letters allow us to label each of the 25 cells. As an example, the "1" is in cell BV.

The cache is located at N 45 08.0[(EX)x(AW)-(AZ)] W 093 14.[((EY)x((CY)+(CZ)))+(DW)-(DY)]
