This cache has been archived.

monstercatambush: That was sure a lot of fun! Really... who would think picking up other people's garbage would have been such a rewarding adventure? Many thanks to Ranger Jill for helping this all come together.

See you next time.

Geocache Description:

Yeeee Haaah! What could be more fun than hanging out with friends and picking up crud!

Believe it or not, there are folks out there that believe in Garbage Pixies. Yes, it's true; people come out to Allen's Creek and party on boats or at campsites, and leave all manner of crud. Sometimes they even bag it up. Who exactly do they think comes out to pick all that up? Obviously, there must be Garbage Pixies. Okay, those of us who actually hike out there know Garbage Pixies don't exist... UNTIL NOW! Please come out and join us for a fun filled day of hiking and picking up crud along the ridges and shore line of the Allen's Creek peninsula. There's a couple of particularly cruddy coves that have accumulated all kinds of "drift trash" from all over the lake that I'll be posting specific waypoints for. At those two spots we'll have tied up row boats to act as barges for the trash bags. I'll be taking my little motor boat, The Breaking Wind II around later in the day to tow those back to the parking/meet up area. Jill Vance, our dedicated Interpretive Naturalist stationed at the DNR office at Paynetown, has agreed to arrange to have all of the "treasures" packed out picked up by her maintenance people (How cool is that?) Garbage bags, bottled water, and some gloves (please bring your's if you have them) will be provided. I'm chipping in an annual Park Pass, which everyone that shows up is automatically entered to win. Anyway, more details later... but mark this on your calendar and plan on attending! Oh yeah, this event starts at 10:00 a.m. See you there!

UPDATE: We've had some e-mails go back and forth between Ranger Jill and myself, and we've come up with an extra fun aspect we think we can pull off! Boat rides! Given that a couple of the more heinous trash accumulations are about 1.5 miles from the parking we want to optimize the time we have. Toward that end, we're working on being able to ferry folks that want to go to the far end back and forth in boats. I know I have my two skiffs and my fishing boat, so I can haul around 9 at a time. Jill is looking into maybe getting one of the jon boats the rangers use. So if anyone else that's thinking about coming has access to a boat you'd be more than welcome to bring it!
