Procição das Velas
Desde há muitos anos que se realiza a tradição das chamadas procissões das velas, nas freguesias da nossa ilha e não só. Destas, não são excepção as três freguesias vizinhas do Porto Martins, Cabo da Praia e Fonte do Bastardo. Todos os anos, pelo dia 12 de Outubro, a população destas freguesias reúne-se, cada uma, em sua igreja e lá é celebrada uma missa católica. De seguida partem em procissão com a sua santa e com velas na mão para um ponto em que se cruzam, ponto esse que é onde está colocada esta cache. Posto isto, a Sta. Margarida de Antioquia, Sta. Catarina e Sta. Bárbara são colocadas onde se encontram as respectivas imagens em azulejos. Aí, os padres dizem umas palavras aos católicos, ou não, presentes. Ditas as palavras, cada procissão sai de novo em cantoria com as respectivas imagens para a sua igreja.

Este local é um dos sítios em que começa o Porto Martins que é uma freguesia rural do concelho da Praia da Vitória, Região Autónoma dos Açores. Foi desmembrada da vizinha freguesia do Cabo da Praia em 9 de Maio de 2001 por força do Parlamento açoriano, data em que foi elevada a freguesia. A sua paisagem é bastante invulgar e variada, caracteriza-se por estar coberta de vinhas estendidas por cima das pedras, e também por possuir bastantes pomares entre os quais se destacam os únicos na ilha Terceira onde se cultiva a oliveira. Esta freguesia foi em tempos bastante marcada pela produção do seu vinho que cada vez mais tem-se perdido por estes lados. Para relembrar e louvar o excelente vinho, a junta de freguesia decidiu colocar, em jeito de homenagem, uma pipa de vinho nas entradas da freguesia.

For many years it held the tradition of so-called processions of candles, in the parishes of our island and beyond. Of these, three are no exception to the neighboring parishes of Porto Martins, Power Cable Beach and the Bastard. Every year, the 12th of October, the population of these parishes meet, each one in his church and there is a Catholic Mass celebrated. Then leave in procession with his holy and candles in hand to a point where they intersect, a point which is where this cache is placed. This site is one of the sites where the Port begins Martins is a rural parish in the municipality of Praia da Vitoria, Azores. It was spun off from the nearby village of Praia in Cape May 9th, 2001 under the Azorean Parliament, when it became a parish. The landscape is quite unusual and varied, is characterized by being covered with vineyards stretched over the rocks, and also for having enough groves among which stand out on the only island of Terceira where the olive is cultivated. This parish was once marked by the very production of its wine that has increasingly been lost in these parts. To remember and praise the excellent wine, the parish council decided to place by way of homage, a barrel of wine entries in the parish.
