Geocache Description:

WWFM IX

World Wide Flash Mob #9

(You might want to add this event to your "watchlist" for late-breaking announcements.)

We are hosting this caching event to bring together geocachers and to introduce new people to the hobby. We will converge to the riverside and spend a few minutes showing the crowd big banners and "picket signs" held up high with geocaching logos.

A Flash Mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly disperse.

This is a part of the World Wide Flash Mob IX occurring simultaneously around the globe organized by Team PodCacher. Check out a list of all of the other scheduled WWFM IX events that will occur simultaneously around the world.

For additional WWFM IX information, visit:

(Groundspeak has given permission for any WWFM IX event to link to the above website.)

You've heard of geocaching mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. It is sort of like a micro event, but with many of these events occuring world wide all at the same time. Flash Mobs have also gathered for other reasons, besides Geocaching (http://tinyurl.com/7qpml). Come be part of this historic event! Only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present and sign the log sheet DURING this time to claim the event. Please BYOP! (Bring your own pen)

The "2" difficulty is for the fact that the limited time will make it tough to log if you aren't prompt and diligent... You MUST be present and sign a log sheet DURING this time to claim the event. Also, First To Find bragging rights will be awarded in a drawing from the names of the volunteers running the event.

Do not show up prior to 12:00! Wander around nearby and "act normal" but not at the site. For the Flash Mob to have its full effect, we must appear to come from nowhere and disappear just as quickly. The event must begin precisely at 12:00 NOON Central Daylight Time (NOON, Wichita GPS Time) on Saturday, June 9th. At exactly NOON, rush to the posted coordinates with your banners, signs, gps receivers held up high, etc.

At precisely 12:15 PM, disperse! and the event officially will be over. Hide your banners; lower your signs; put away your gps receivers; and quickly leave the area. This is how a Flash Mob works.

If any muggles are curious about the event we will have volunteers handing out fliers that explain geocaching. ( example fliers )

We hope to gather a "good showing" of cachers at this event. Tell your friends and help promote the event. Bring them along, they do not have to be geocachers to enjoy the Flash Mob.

Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. This will be during the last Saturday of the Wichita River Festival so parking will be crazy. If you can't find parking you might miss the event! It isn't as much fun when you're not there. Swing by the coordinates and scout the area a few days early, so you know where you will be going on the big day. This event occurs during the Wichita River Festival so free parking may be a valuable find if you wish to see some other festivities afterwards. Come early!

WWFM IX SOUVENIR!

Groundspeak will award a virtual souvenir to geocachers who attend any of this year's 312 flash mob WWFM IX events in 31 countries and log an "attended" log online. The souvenir will be attached to the souvenir section of your Geocaching.com Profile page. The event is on the 9th and souvenirs will be awarded until the 12th to those who get their "attended" logs in. That doesn't leave much time for daydreaming; get those "attended" logs in quickly (during or after attending, not before). Here is a link to THIS YEAR'S souvenir.
