A Geocaching Quiz Day!

The inaugural Scottish Geocaching Quiz will take place on Sunday 26th February 2012 at the Newtongrange Star Club, starting at 3pm.



Some friends and I were saying recently that caching events have tended to become a quick five minute meet, then head off to find the many caches placed nearby rather than have time to sit down with friends, old and new, for a blether. A chance to put a face to name rather than just see it on a web page or in the event logbook. So I thought I would put a wee quiz together as these appeared to be enjoyed in the past and it might be fun to do it again. But don't worry if you want to go caching first, it starts at 3pm so you'll have time to grab a few boxes beforehand.

The event format at present is that the quiz will begin at 3pm.

There will be 5 rounds of questions - geocaching, geography, a picture board, numbers and general knowledge. I reserve the right to change the line up!

Quiz teams to consist of up to four players and there will be a wee prize for the team with the best name (in the judges' humble opinion, of course!) There will be a trophy for the overall winners as well a memento for the individual team members. A booby prize will be on offer for the team with the lowest score...

After the first two rounds, a hot buffet with soup, sausage roll, pies, etc. (let me know if you have any particular dietary requirements - yes, Jackie a veggie option will be available!) will be served. Drinks are available from the bar in the hall. You can be doing the picture board while having your nosebag. Try not to get too many crumbs on it!

Then the final two rounds, announce the winners and hail their magnificence!

There might be one or two other treats along the way, depending on how the time goes. To cover the cost of the buffet and the hall, there is a charge of £20 per team, or five quid each if there are four of you.

Given the size of the hall, I would say that the maximum number of teams is 20, which will hopefully be enough.
