The Rats have their 10 year caching anniversary on 27th January
2011 so come and join the celebrations at the beautiful Stanwell
Park beach two days later on the 29th of January. Afterwards if
you're keen we might even be able to walk up to the site of their
first cache- Train Spotting- up on the Illawarra Escarpment.
If Mr Rat can time it right, this will also mark their 6,000th
find!
Things have changed a lot since that first cache, Mr Rat, Dave,
often talks about how he had every cache south of the Harbour
Bridge in Sydney covered! And when he started, those were the days
of Reverse/ Locationless caches, Virtual caches and where you could
hide a cache almost anywhere (in fact if you visit many other
states in Australia you're likely to bump into one of The Rats
caches).
The Rats have also made quite a contribution to the Geocaching
community over the years, attending and hosting many events,
including the annual South Coast/ Illawarra get-together.
And as far as caching genealogy goes, many people might be able
to trace their start in caching back to The Rats.
The details
We'll meet at the park near Stanwell Park beach for a BBQ lunch
from 11am, BYO everything, perhaps a chair and some shade. Swimmers
too if you're keen.
