This is one of a series of puzzle caches created to celebrate the 2012 Olympic Games Sailing events to be held in Weymouth Bay.
IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS SERIES WILL BE ARCHIVED ON THE 30th SEPTEMBER 2013
We would like to thank the many cachers who have taken the time to attempt these caches,
The series consists of five rings of puzzle caches situated in Weymouth Bay and can be seen on the Geocaching.com map view. Each ring is designated a separate colour (Black, Red, Yellow, Blue and Green) and has an associated bonus solved by collecting information from the caches within that ring. Solving all five bonus puzzles will yield the coordinates of a final cache location (GC3BXN0 Sailing Rings - Race To The Podium), where Gold, Silver and Bronze medals await the first three successful geocachers. Most of the puzzles are designed to be solved at home and results can be checked using the associated geocheck.com link.
There are over 60 puzzles to solve so it is not a quick task to get to the end, but remember that all Olympians only reach their peak with hard work!
The cache is within five miles of the above location so please don't get your feet wet!
The forthcoming Olympic Sailing events has resulted in a number of improvements to the traffic systems in Weymouth with a brand new relief road replacing our much loved hairpin on the old A354, acres of black tarmac and smart traffic lights replacing a number of beautiful flower bedded roundabouts, new park and ride sites and designated Olympic routes to come for the actual event dates. This will presumably help the number of coaches expected during the Games.
At the latest count we are expecting from the North and east 1 from Yeovil (92) but not 1 from Aylesbury (42); 2 from Carlisle (18) and 1 from Kilmarnock (2); 3 from Northampton (64), 2 from Newport (62), 1 from Banbury (68) and 1 from Bexley (14).
From the West of England we expect 1 from Brighton (12) but not 1 from Bournemouth (10); 1 from Portsmouth (71) but not 1 from the Isle of Wight (46); 3 from Southampton (84), 2 from Plymouth (70), 1 from Exeter (31), 1 from Weston-Super-Mare (13) and 1 from Aberdeen (1) that missed the turning on the M5 and ultimately came from the West!
The creators of the series wish to thank our local reviewers and Groundspeak, who have been involved during its creation and given their permission for cache hides to be up to five miles distant from published coordinates.
