Geocache Description:

This is a simple Wherigo cache, located between Lansdown and Woolley. The posted coordinates are for the first stage of the Wherigo. The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

A simple but hopefully fun Wherigo cache, very loosely based on the legend of King Bladud and his pigs. The legend tells us that his pigs discovered special mud which was a cure for leprosy. You may find some of this special mud on your journey. You download the cartridge  here

Your mission is to collect the pigs from the starting location, protect them from harm, and help them find their hidden treasure. Make sure to take the pigs with you!!!! The game itself will lead you to the geocache and provide a hint. . Never done a Wherigo before? Don't worry! As long as you have a compatible device (e.g. Garmin Oregon/Colorado, iPhone, Android, Pocket PC) you can play. It's like a Multi-cache, but with an extra interactive element. The difficulty rating reflects the Wherigo aspect, and that if things go wrong multiple trips may be needed. Tree cover is also an issue at the cache location. But if it goes smoothly, it should be easy. The terrain rating is due to one steep section, which can be slippery. Total return walking distance is 1.5 miles, and it should take you less than 1 hour.

There is limited parking available near the starting location on Granville Road. Otherwise, you might consider Lansdown Park, Lansdown Road, or the nearby pub should you wish to visit. If you are successful, you will be given a completion code which will allow you to mark the game complete on wherigo.com ("unlock" is the terminology used). This step is optional as far as this geocache goes - if you find the cache, log a find.

Technical Notes: Verified with the following devices/apps. (It should work on any Android or IOS smartphone, plus any Garmin GPS with Wherigo support): - iPhone 3GS, 4S, and 5S using Wherigo app. - Samsung Galaxy II using WhereYouGo for android. - Garmin Oregon (Version 1.4 of the cartridge and later) - HTC Desire HD iPhone/Android users - select "Pocket PC Device" when downloading the cartridge. A note for iPhone users: I noticed that Whereigo app drains the iPhone if you keep it running - so make sure to fully exit the Wherigo app when you are done.

Update:  30 October 2022

The public footpath has been re-routed (and improved!), which has meant I needed to move the geocache.    I could not simply edit the original cartridge, as the original builder is not supported and I could no longer get it to work.   So I have re-created the Wherigo using Wherigo\\kit.  The story remains the same, though the gameplay is slightly different, and I'm afraid it doesn't support audio, so the wolves will not howl as they used to!
