187 ist die Nummer des Paragraphen im kalifornischen Strafgesetzbuch, in dem Mord behandelt wird. „One Eight Seven“ wird auch von der Polizei nebst dem „Ten-Code“ als Abkürzung dafür im Funkverkehr benutzt. Jugend- und andere Gangs haben den Code aufgegriffen und benutzen ihn als Drohung.
