All Houston-Area Geocaching for a Day!
Come one and come all to Houston's First
Geo-King Cake Party - You might be crowned "King of All
Houston-Area Geocaching for a Day" with all the rights and
obligations thereof*!
From Wikipedia: The "king cake" takes its name
from the biblical three kings. Catholic tradition states that their
journey to Bethlehem took days (the Twelve Days of Christmas), and
that they arrived to honor the Christ Child on Epiphany (January
6th). The season for king cake extends from the end of the Twelve
Days of Christmas (Twelfth Night and Epiphany Day), through to
Mardi Gras day. Some organizations or groups of friends may have
"king cake parties" every week through the Carnival
season.
The king cake tradition came to the US Gulf
Coast in the 19th century from France and Spain. A king cake is
baked in a circular shape to represent a crown, and a small token
or baby is hidden in the cake to represent the Christ Child. The
cake is decorated with royal colors of purple, green and gold. The
purple color stands for justice, the green color stands for faith
and the gold color stands for power.
A King Cake from New Orleans will
be flown in for this event complete with baby inside. If you are
FTF the baby in your slice, then you will be crowned "King of All
Houston-Area Geocaching for a Day" with all the rights and
obligations thereof*.
*Also from Wikipedia: The person who gets the
trinket or baby is declared the King or Queen of the day.... The
king or queen is usually obligated to supply the next king cake or
host the next party or both.
