Burke Street Wharf, built with wooden piles and decking, was part of the 66,000 pound harbour scheme origionally constructed in 1868.
Long Description:
Burke Street wharf is now placed with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust as a Catagory II.Burke Street Wharf.
The Wharf was once the main passenger and cargo wharf for Thames and needed continual dredging kept the water depth sufficient to allow extended use either side of high tide.
