Never thought I would be doing this but if I want to enter this particular contest then this is what is required.....

Greater Charlotte Geocaching Club

This is the most Grand lamp post I could find. You didn't think I would pick just your standard version did you?

When I moved to Charlotte in 1977 this was a glowing beacon at the end of the Independence Blvd business district. The only lights that surpased it were the ground lights that lit up the the sky above the then Wachovia building. Those you could see in the clouds above the city every night from miles away.

Just so you know...This thing is NOT about to fall over. Think of the crumbling mortar between the concrete base and the metal pole base as "the skirt" that you normally lift at a typical lamp post. It is (or was) decorative filler.

This is also nearby my first find and of a similar sort Truffles on 9/19/2007
