Geocache Description:

ABOUT THE SERIES:
  • These "Puzzler" challenge caches get progressively harder to achieve. The first (2.5% at 250) isn't terribly difficult. The last (10% at 1000+) is admitedly very difficult. I've met people who qualify at over 10k but that is REALLY hard.
  • Typically, challenge caches are at a fixed location. Since this is about puzzles, I deviated from that norm. Each puzzle is meant to be easy. If you have any difficulty with the puzzles, let me know.
  • Each hide should be pretty straightforward. The Difficulty rating of these caches represents the difficulty in qualifying.

To qualify for this cache, you need to have achieved at least a 10.0% "Unknown Cache" find rate after having found at least 1000 total caches (all types inclusive). You can see this by looking at your statistics page.

Below is a capture of relevant portion of my statistics page:

You'll notice that at the time of this screenshot, I had an 11.48% find rate on Unknown caches over 1002 finds (115 / .1148). Please post a screenshot of your statistics as proof of attaining the goal. I recommend a screenshot because a link to your stats may look invalid if your puzzle find percentage drops in the future.

If you find this cache before attaining the goal, feel free to write a NOTE. After you attain the goal, you can then log a FOUND entry.

PLEASE NOTE: These caches are in the City of Phoenix Sonoran Mountain Preserve. phoenix.gov/parks/hikemain will take you to their website for information on all the parks and preserve in Phoenix. All the trails are open to the public from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The puzzle begins here:
====================================================================
Hiroimono is a type of puzzle that comes from Japan. It involves picking up stones from a Go board.

The rules of Hiroimono are:
  1. Start at the black stone and go in any of the four directions.
  2. Your path can only go along the lines.
  3. When you reach a stone, you must pick it up. (It does not remain on the board.)
  4. You can only pick up a stone once.
  5. You can only change directions when you pick up a stone.
  6. When you pick up a stone, you can continue straight ahead, you can turn right or you can turn left. (You cannot go back the way you came.)
  7. The board does not wrap around.
  8. You are successful if you pick up all of the stones.

When you are successful at solving the puzzle, you will have picked up all sixteen of the white stones. Subtract the numbers from the first eight stones you picked up from the listed North coordinate. Add the numbers from the last eight stones you picked up to the listed West coordinate. This will give you the coordinates of the cache!
