Geocache Description:

A cache for hikers on the northern slope of Mt Juktas.

The cache is placed very near the path that starts from Anemospilia and ends at the top of the mountain. To find it you have two choices:
either
  1. hike the path up from Anemospilia, which takes about an hour one way
    or
  2. drive along the dirt road from Archanes village to the top of the mountain, park at the given waypoint and hike down to the cache, which takes about half an hour one way.

We placed this cache on a hike from Anemospilia up to the top of Juktas and then down the path to Archanes. All in all, it took us about three hours.

From the cache area and if the weather is clear you have great view to two of the highest mountains in Crete, Psiloritis in the east and Dikti in the west. The view to the sea, Dia Island and the city of Heraklion in the north is also fantastic.

Another interesting thing you can see, if you are lucky, is a pair of vultures flying up in the sky. These vultures – Gypaetus babrbatus - are an endangered species and Mt Juktas is one of their few habitats left.

You can combine this cache with a series of other caches on the mountain and in the greater area.

Enjoy the Cretan nature!
