About this spot:
A nice place with many benches,another monument of great Gdansk astronomer Johann Hevelius. He knew what is important in life, so he also was a brewer, being also a mayor of Gdansk.He did not use any lens in his work, he used only qadrantnand alidade. With these humble instruments he was able to discover four comets and the Sobieski's shield constellation. Sobieski was a King of Poland who defeated the Turks near Vienna in 1683.Hevelius is buried in the nearby St. Catherine church. Here you can admire the Old Town Hall and the Great Mill, both very photogenic. The Town Hall was built in 16 th century, you can visit it, admission free, closed on Sundays and Saturdays.The Great Mill was built by the Teutonic Knights in 1350 on the Radunia Canal. Inside there is a free archeological exhibition and a shopping centre.
