Geocache Description:

THIS IS A CHALLENGE CACHE, which is located at the listed coordinates. To log a find, you must have completed the challenge requirements specified below, and have signed the cache log.

The challenge requires finding a cache in EVERY County in a minimum of TWO States. Completing the County Challenge in any single State is a significant geocaching accomplishment. This challenge "ups the ante"!

Most States have specific County Challenge caches, and listing these for the two or more States you have completed, with their GC numbers and your log dates, is the easiest way to document your having satisfied the challenge requirements. Another efficient means of documentation is to include on your Profile the U.S. map that shows all Counties you have found caches in. Bookmark lists can also be used. No date restrictions apply, so all past finds qualify.

This cache is hidden at the base of a Ponderosa Pine tree near the summit of Point 7205. It is covered by a few small rocks, and should be easy to locate. Getting there, however, is NOT easy! It entails a strenuous off-trail hike on steep terrain from your parking spot along Colorado Highway 14 in Poudre Canyon. Approximately 750 feet of elevation gain is necessary, involving considerable bushwhacking. As is the case with many of our foothills-vicinity peaks, there is an abundance of prickly pear cactus on your approach, so be careful!

Views in all directions from the cache are amazing. But because of the rugged surroundings, vistas are restricted to a single Colorado County: Larimer. Enjoy the spectacular scenery! The Difficulty/Terrain ratings for the cache (5.0/4.5) relate to the overall challenge of meeting the cache requirements. The D/T ratings for reaching and finding the cache container are 1.5/4.0.

On October 30, 2011 I found and logged a similar challenge cache located in Michigan: "MaxB’s Multi State County Challenge" GC2QN4X. That wonderful cache provided the inspiration for this challenge cache in Colorado. Thanks, Warren and Maxine!
