New Years Resolution Event
2012
Glendalough - Spink &
Glenealo Valley
Walking
Route - 9Km, 3.5 Hours Estimated
It's New Years Resolution time again! The 2012 New
Years Resolution Event is scheduled for January 14th 2012
@
10am. I advise
watching this listing, as event details may change with short
notice due to unforeseen circumstances.
The walk this year is taking
place in Glendalough Co. Wicklow. We'll be walking the wonderful
"Spink & Glenealo Valley" loop walk.
We will start in the Car Park
and make our way up by the Poulanass Waterfall before joining
the boardwalk that will bring us to the viewing point overlooking
the Upper Lake. The climb to the viewing point is the most
difficult part of the walk, as we have to climb over 600 steps to
get there.
Once at the viewing point, we
will make our way along the boardwalk making our way towards
Glenealo Valley. From Glenealo Valley
we will may our way down a dirt track to the old Mining Village and
pack to the Car Park.
Walking Route
Profile
Children will need to be strictly supervised as we
make our way from the Upper Lake viewing point towards Glenealo Valley.
While we are walking on a boardwalk, there are steep cliffs on our
right.
The walk is about 9K with a
400M accent. The whole loop should take about 3.5hrs.
The walk itself is quite easy going apart
from the initial accent up the steps to the Upper Lake viewing
point, however a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
As we are in the hills, I
would recommended bringing a good pair of walking shoes, warm
clothes and some wet gear.
There are three caches
en-route:
We'll be meeting at the above
coordinates at 10am
sharp, with the departure
15 minutes later. As the
location is very popular and can get quite busy, we are starting an
hour earlier than we usually would. There may be a €4 charge into the Car Park, so bring
some change.
For those not wishing to do
the walk you can meet us after the walk in Lynhams in Larragh at
approximately 2PM to 2.30PM. There are a few tables booked in the
restaurant where you can meet us and claim your attendance for the
event. For further information on the meet up after the walk, visit
this
thread on the Geocaching Ireland forums.
