Geocache Description:

This is an ammo can filled with dog toys and treats in memory of our dog Qwazie. Please rehide well so the cache does not get muggled, this is a very high traffic area.

The cache (Bandicoot) was the last cache Qwazie ever did with us. Mike and Lily were nice enough to shut down there cache and let us have this spot to place a cache in memory of Qwazie. We got Qwazie from the S.P.C.A in April 2006, he was a big clumsy 5 month old puppy. We always kept his leash at the front door in the closet and it sort of was a game with us to try and get the leash from the closet and into your pocket without him hearing you. You could be as quiet as a mouse but he would manage to hear you as soon as you touched it. It didn't matter where he was in the house. As soon as he heard you, he would be at the front door wiggling his big butt like crazy and jumping around, there was no way you were getting out that door without him. My Dad and I went up hiking in the bush when we first got Qwazie. As we were walking I spotted two deer up the trail, I was curious what Qwazie would do when he spotted them so we just let him walk up ahead. He got right beside the deer and the three of them all spotted each other at the same time. The two deer went running through the bush and Qwazie took off down the trail in the opposite direction heading for home, running over little trees and anything that was in his way. When we went for a walk with my daughters, Qwazie would whine if he could not see his girls. As soon as we would walk around the corner and he could see them again he would be all happy again and stop whining. We always felt safer with him around no matter what we were doing. All he ever wanted to do was please us. When I started caching in 2007 he was my caching partner and we went everywhere together. He got the name Wrongway from Fordfender because Wayne noticed that if there was a cache up one trail, Qwazie would always take the other trail. It got to where if we did not know which trail to take we would let Qwazie go ahead and which ever trail he chose we would take the other and most of the time it was the right choice. On one of our many camping trips we went for a walk and Qwazie spotted his first squirrel. He went after it and was half way up a tree before he realized that dogs can't climb trees and he came down pretty hard. Everytime we went on a hike he would keep an eye out for those squirrels. He never did catch one but he sure chased his share of them. He never would go into water deeper than his chest but he would splash and chase the water. He would keep himself entertained (and other people as well) for quite a while doing that. About a year after Qwazie and I started caching my wife got interested in caching so we started going on longer hikes which Qwazie loved. One time Fordfender, 2chicks, my wife and I went for a hike down by the army base in Comox looking for a couple of caches. As we were walking there was a rooster that started crowing. It scared Qwazie so bad that my wife kept sneaking up behind him and all she had to do was crow like a rooster or stomp her foot and he was gone. This was our big tough 130lb guard dog. In March of 2011 we found out that Qwazie had hip dysplasia and we had to start giving him pills everyday. We figured that would be it for him coming on hikes with us but he proved us wrong. In no time he was out there with us again but he just could not go all day like before. All he wanted to do was be with us no matter where or what we were doing. He started feeling so much better that we took him off of the pills and he was doing great for a few months. In November he was starting to have a hard time on hikes again so off to the vet we went. Thinking it was his hips again we figured it would just be a quick visit and some more pills. It was very tough for us when we found out that he had a tumor on his liver and he would not be coming home with us. I really miss coming home after work and no matter how he was feeling he would meet me at the door and we would have a wrestle. We only had Qwazie for six years but I don't think we will ever find another dog as special as him and I dont know if I will ever try. We would like to see cachers put a picture of their caching buddies on their logs if you are lucky enough to have one. Qwazie Dec 2005 - November 10th 2011
