A cache at the church of Timios Stavros (=Holy Cross), in a corner
of the deserted but very beautiful Nissimos Plateau, with great
view over the village of Tzermiado and the Lassithi Plateau.
Tzermiado is the biggest village on the Lassithi Plateau. It got
its name from the family that first inhabited the village during
the Venetian Occupation. The area, however, has been continuously
inhabited since the Minoan times, as the ruins of the Minoan
settlement at Karfi prove.
To get to the Timios Stavros church and the cache you have to take
a dirt and cement road that starts at the western entrance of the
village, see WP. At the end of it you’ll see the church. You
can park there and follow your GPS. Don’t hesitate to open
any gates, humans are permitted in, goats are not!
We placed this cache during a hike we organised from Tzermiado to
Timios Stavros and then across the Nissimos Plateau to the top of
Karfi. It's a small plastic container with a logbook and a
pen.
Enjoy the great view!
