red07ss: Well its time to archive this event. I had a lot of fun, and by the sounds of everyones logs, I'm sure we all had a lot of fun that day.

Again, big thanks to JustJoee, TheHandle, Webberpalmer&Crew, and kenlaur for all their help and support, and also all the geocachers that helped to achieve 75 event caches, which I was not expecting at all. It just goes to show the spirit in this area for community and geocaching, we all pulled together to make this a memorable event.

And I just want to make sure everyone makes it out to the area's next big event "Discover L&A County-2012" GC3K1P9 http://coord.info/GC3K1P9 on August 25th in Napanee, ON hosted by Coman123. They are going for MEGA this year

Thanks everyone, I'm posted this summer to NS, but I'm sure this will continue to be an annual event.

Geocache Description:

EXPLORE QUINTE WEST EVENT - Come out and see this natural attraction!

Come out on May 12th 2012 to explore the Quinte West area and have a great time with the whole family. There are hundreds of great caches in this area, plus there is a growing number of event specific caches (75). So come on out and Explore Quinte West, and see everything it has to offer!!! Event ground zero will be held at the National Air Force Museum of Canada, next to the restored Halifax Bomber (free admission). Opening ceremonies start at 9am, full schedule below

Quinte West is situated on the shores of the scenic Bay of Quinte - the gateway to the world famous Trent-Severn Waterway. This beautiful natural setting, combined with a progressive and vibrant community and direct location along the Highway 401 corridor, makes Quinte West a great place to live and the right place to do business. Quinte West is definitely a Natural Attraction.

New Geocacher? The Quinte West Chamber of Commerce has kindly donated 7 handheld GPS units for use by any new geocachers that want to give the hobby a try. They will be preloaded with all geocaches in the area, including the event ones. There will also be a new geocacher info session offered after the opening ceremonies around 9:30am at the museum.

We have growing number of community sponsors for this event including the National Air Force Museum of Canada, City of Quinte West, and Chamber of Commerce along with other local business. Thanks to their help we have made this a FREE event open to the whole community with Door Prizes

A Search and Rescue Technician from 424 Squadron is scheduled to be at the event to answer any questions you may have about Outdoor Safety and Survival. As long as operations don't unexpectedly change, which they do at times. These guys are real life hero's and are highly respected in the CF, Thanks to my connections at 424 Squadron (I work there as a Tech), this is most likely going to happen

Search and Rescue Technicians (SAR TECH) are part of a group of elite, highly trained rescue specialists who provide on-scene medical aid and extraction from some of the harshest and most remote areas of Canada. They are military aircrew who deploy from rotary or fixed wing aircraft in any environment or climactic condition. They will locate and penetrate the site, treat and evacuate casualties. SAR operations may require parachuting, mountaineering, hiking, swimming, scuba diving, sometimes in adverse conditions.

The Quinte West Community Police will also be offering a free Child I.D. to anyone who wishes to become part of the program. The Child I.D. program uses modern, police-approved techniques to create a child identification kit for the ones you love. The kit collects photos, digital fingerprints, as well as traditional statistical information (height, weight, hair and eye colour, etc.). This information is matched to work seamlessly with Ontario's law enforcement providers. (O.P.P.) By being so compatible, the critical indentifying information can be broadcast and shared more quickly than ever before to assist with the safe recovery of missing children. I have my own daughter signed up, and its good piece of mind.
