Geocache Description:

Have you ever taken a long road trip and made frequent stops along the way at rest areas to refresh yourself and stretch? The “Take a walk or ride thru the parks” series of caches provides you with an opportunity to walk or bicycle on path ways around Lake Arlington and neighboring parks and to pause at a few Rest Stops along the way to sit awhile and enjoy the scenery, enjoy a drink from a water fountain (in season), get rid of any trash you may be carrying, have a picnic lunch, and, of course, look for a hidden geocache.

Most of the Rest Stops in this series of caches have trees and bushes, benches and/or tables, a trash container, and a water fountain (except one) for your convenience. Two have a bike rack and one even has a porta-potty (seasonal) within about 200 feet. However, besides providing you with these common “rest” amenities they also provide opportunity to hide a cache.

Just to keep it interesting, there is one “undeveloped” rest stop, RS #5, with no amenities and one scenic/informative rest stop, RS #0, which provides for a scenic and informative pause in your
walk / ride around the lake.

No bushwacking is involved in pursuing this series of caches. All walking is along paved paths and the Rest Stops are adjacent to the path except two which require an easy walk down a gentle grassy slope or over a generally flat grassy area. However, just like the heavy automobile traffic we encounter on the highways at times, there will be a lot of pedestrian and bicycle traffic on the path during certain times of the day. So please use stealth tactics when searching for a cache if there are lots of muggles out. You won’t have to be a contortionist or perform any unnatural acrobatics while searching. All the caches can be easily and covertly reached with simple natural body motions – bending over, sitting, arm extension, kneeling, etc. The benches and/or tables at the Rest Stops provide a comfortable place to fill out the log. All the caches contain only a paper log so please bring your own pencil.

If you feel adventuresome after finding the Rest Stop series of caches and would like to do some “off-path” caching, follow the path around to the North side of the lake where you will find the forested natural areas which at last count contain 5 caches concealed in the natural settings. There are easy and hard ways to access these caches and I will leave that up to you --- good luck.

FYI night cachers – posted closing time of the parks is 11 PM.

I hope you have a pleasant and successful path trip and enjoy the Rest Stops along the way.
May the Lord bless your day.

*******************************************

Rest Stop #5 is an “undeveloped” rest stop just off the main path encircling Lake Arlington and lacks all of the rest stop amenities found in the other stops in this series.

It consists of a large flat grassy area bordering some of the natural/wooded areas of the park and also some structures supporting the distribution of electric power through the area. The flat grassy area of this rest stop is easily navigated on foot and suitable for athletic activities like hiking to/along the nearby wooded areas, tossing a football around with a friend, playing Frisbee with your dog (that is, if dogs were allowed in the park - sorry), or snooping around looking for a hidden geocache.

As you approach Rest Stop 5 from the east you will see a Park District Bulletin Board at a fork in the path providing you with information on the types of fish in the lake, a map of the lake, dated lists of park district events, etc. After absorbing all the posted info, you can launch your search for the cache at Rest Stop #5 from here.

When searching for the cache, be aware of potential muggle eyes from the path, sidewalk, street, and neighboring houses because this rest stop is a pretty open area without any nearby plausible rest stop amenities as found in the other rest stops in this series.

So .......

Use STEALTH when searching and retrieving this cache to preserve its integrity and hidden identity from muggles.

The cache hidden here is in a micro class of its own.
Bring your own writing instrument.
You may also find a decoy cache.
If you do, please put it back where you found it and continue your search.

If this cache could speak, it would say to you:

“My appearance is very important to me.
So treat me with care and respect when you find me.
Please put me back exactly as you found me because
I don’t want to look like an unkempt slouch ! “
