Yaks Tap Brew Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

ingosabi: Confirmed that the cache has gone missing. I don't have time to work on a suitable replacement right now, so am archiving to let others use the (excellent) location. I hope someone does. Thanks to everyone who found Yaks Tap Brew while it was active. By the way, Yaks Tap Brew is an anagram of the name of the cache's location, West Bay Park.

Geocache Description:

Located in one of Olympia’s newest parks, this cache should be a pretty quick and easy find for most people. Located in the north side of the park, away from another nearby cache and from the recent environmental issues near the park’s south end.

The cache container is a micro with only a log and two small items. Please bring your own pen/pencil.

Note that this cache was placed using a rudimentary phone-based GPS, though I verified the coordinates using Google Maps. Please bear this in mind when seeking the cache, and I advise relying more on geosense than the coordinates. Use the hint, if needed.

The following information comes from the City of Olympia website

Size: 17 Acres

Park History: The City of Olympia has acquired over 17 acres on the west side of West Bay for a shoreline park and trail. This spectacular site provides outstanding views to the State Capitol, ship canal and Olympic peaks. A Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program Water Access Grant and an Aquatic Lands Enhancement Grant helped to fund acquisition, development and shoreline enhancement. A partnership with local Rotary Clubs resulted in a developed overlook, hand held boat launch and other improvements. The Phase I area is approximately 4 acres.

Park Status: West Bay Phase I construction is complete and the park is open. The City celebrated the Grand Opening on July 14, 2010. The City continues to conduct on-going monitoring of the soils and groundwater and the site to the south has been fenced to prevent public access as it still has environmental contamination and other hazardous conditions.
