Sum of an Infinite Series Cache Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bigguy In Texas: It is with sadness and just a little regret that I archive this cache. It has stood since 11/11 and was placed to fill a needed D/T gap. I want to thank DrPflug and the Beta team who help place and test it. I also want to thank all the geocachers who came to visit and to CLFM and rae32 for verifying that this was truly gone. It will not be replaced.

Geocache Description:

Two trains 150 miles apart are traveling toward each other along the same track. The first train goes 60 miles per hour; the second train rushes along at 90 miles per hour. A fly is hovering just above the nose of the first train. It buzzes from the first train to the second train, turns around immediately (assume zero turnaround time), flies back to the first train, and turns around again. It goes on flying back and forth between the two trains until they collide. If the fly’s speed is 120 miles per hour, how far will it travel (answer is in miles).

This is a famous mathematical puzzle which involves computing the sum of an infinite series. The fly will fly a shorter distance on each trip as the trains get closer. Just compute the sum of the series.

Take your answer in miles and multiply x 3. Put a period in front of that and let that = x. So if your answer is 540 miles, x = .540 Then add that value to both the North and West posted coordinates.

The famous computer/mathematician John von Neumann, when asked this question, thought about it for about 10 seconds and came up with the answer.
