Lungo il Cammino di San Francesco una tappa al Santuario di Fontecolombo
------------ ITA ------------- Nella parte più nascosta di un bosco di lecci secolari, sulla costa del verdissimo Monte Rainiero, si adagia il Santuario di Fontecolombo. È il Sinai francescano, è il monte scelto da San Francesco per stilare la Regola definitiva del suo Ordine. Qui tutto è sacro: gli edifici, la fonte d'acqua purissima e il bosco stesso, perché racchiude il Sacro Speco, la grotta in cui fu scritta la Regola. In questo luogo San Francesco fu operato agli occhi: gli vennero incise con un ferro rovente tutte le vene dall'orecchio al sopracciglio. Come raccontano le fonti, miracolosamente fratello fuoco risparmiò San Francesco dal dolore. San Francesco amò profondamente la Valle Reatina. Qui trovò rifugio dalla vanità del mondo, trovò gente semplice e vicina al suo messaggio, trovò una natura dolce e rigogliosa. San Francesco fece della Valle Reatina, accanto ad Assisi e la Verna, una delle sue tre patrie. Così questa splendida pianura, circondata da colline e monti, fu da allora chiamata Valle Santa. In the most hidden part of a wood of centuries-old holm oak trees, on the side of the extremely green Mt Rainiero, lies the shrine of Fontecolombo. It’s the Mt Sinai of Franciscans, the mountain picked by St Francis to write the definitive Rule of his Order. Here everything’s holy: the buildings, the spring of crystal-clear water and the wood itself, because it contains the Holy Cave, the cave where the Rule was written. In this place St Francis underwent eye surgery: with an hot iron, all his veins from the eye to the eyebrow were cut. As it’s told, brother fire spared St. Francis the pain by miracle. St. Francis deeply loved the Rieti Valley. Here he found solace from the world’s vanity, genuine people close to his message, a sweet and lush nature. St Francis made the Rieti Valley, along with Assisi and the Verna, one of his three homes. So, this magnificent plain, surrounded by hills and mountains, was named the Holy Valley.
