LB10-1981 Turning the Corner Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: Sorry for the slow archiving of this one; I've been away on holiday. Thanks for all the feedback.
Clearly gone, and since I'm going to archive the whole series as soon as I can drop by for a walk to collect containers, it's time I let this one go. Thanks for all the logs and sorry to everyone who DNF'd it. I hope the rest of the series helped make up for the hassle.

Geocache Description:

The Life Begins cache series is an autobiographical trail set to celebrate my turning 40 in November 2011. I've always said I prefer getting to my 40s to the alternative. Don't forget to answer the question in red on the log and make a note of the number! You should get four chances to get each figure in order to find LB40-Bonus!

This cache: will be very easy.

Biography: For most of 1981 I was 9, so it involved a lot of Lego, looking for frogs, a caravanning holiday in Cornwall and Action Man battles with my brother. Monopoly would end in fights (he always cheated) and I think this was the year I saw a UFO early one morning.

Wider world: 1981 was the year of the big royal wedding where Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer at St Paul's, the identification of AIDS, John McEnroe beating Bjorn Borg at Wimbledon and Columbia, the Space Shuttle, flew into orbit for the first time. MTV launched, London's Nat West tower became the tallest building in Europe (42 floors - I ran up them all in under 7 minutes in 2011), Phone Cards began to appear and Pixie boots were all the rage. Chariots of Fire, Porky's and The Cannonball Run (which popularised showing out-takes at the end of a film) were all doing the cinema rounds while on TV it was all about The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Hi-De-Hi. Thanks to Tizwaz lots of boys wanted Spit the Dog puppets and Lego Railways were the stuff of kids' dreams. Breville sandwich toasters were the stuff of cheese dreams. CND was popular, as was Johnny Morris's Animal Magic and Blankety Blank. Only Fools and Horses appeared for the first time and New Romantics (Adam Ant etc) were popping up. Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision Song Contest and Jo Dolce was telling people to 'Shutupa ya face'... Number 1 on my birthday: Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie.

Where next: Just follow your GPS, looking out for the handsome oak with REAL birdbox on its rear on your right along the way.
