Captain Petrakogiorgis (1890-1972) was one of the first men who took part in the Greek Resistance against the Nazi Germans in Crete.
In 1941, after his son had been killed, he helped his family escape to Egypt and dedicated himself to the struggle for freedom. With his group of men he lived on the mountains fighting and organizing much sabotage against the enemy. He became a legend and got the nickname “the Eagle of Psiloritis”. He also took part in the kidnapping of Colonel Kreipe together with other Greek leaders and English Officers.
In 1944 he was the first to march into the liberated city of Heraklion.
