A little less than a year ago, I took part in a rescue mission that
saved the lives of two young women who were stuck on a cliff in
these mountains. The event made a huge impression on me. Today I
finally revisited the area to retrace my steps and see how things
actually looked in the daytime.
This multi cache guides you along that same path. At each stage, I
included part of the story from that night. It starts near the end
of Lover's Leap trail, in Spring Canyon State Park. This is a fee
area. It continues up rugged terrain high into the peaks.
IMPORTANT: While this cache involves bushels of
bushwhacking, royal route finding, and scabs of scrambling, at no
time will you be required to climb to the top of any of the rocky
peaks. This behavior was what necessitated the rescue, please do
not make me have to repeat that night. Have fun, be safe and enjoy
the hiking.
Original contents of cache are emergency supplies that every
back-country hiker should carry, and most SAR volunteers do carry:
emergency blankets, matches, compass, whistle, lightsticks.
A hearty congratulations to birdroppings on the FTF
