Je zoekt naar een 35mm-film kokertje. De cache bevindt zich langs de openbare weg, dus pas op voor verkeer! Breng je eigen pen/potlood mee. Komt u met de auto: Er is geen parkeergelegenheid bij de cache, gelieve te parkeren op de parkeerplaats van KDO, zie waypoints. Blijf langs de openbare weg lopen en niet bovenop de dijk ivm grazende schapen of ander vee. Tijdens sommige uren van de dag kan er nogal veel verkeer zijn. Blijf oppassen hiervoor!

Damsluis De Kwakel
Deze damsluis is onderdeel van de Stelling van Amsterdam (zie onder). De sluis is rond 1895 aangelegd in de Vuurlinie, de dijk tussen de Zuider- en Noorder Legmeerpolder, en gerestaureerd in 2009. Bij oorlogsdreiging kon de Zuider Legmeerpolder onder water worden gezet door een sluis open te zetten. De damsluis De Kwakel werd dan met schotbalken gesloten zodat de Noorder Legmeerpolder droog bleef.
Stelling van Amsterdam
De Stelling van Amsterdam is een 135 kilometer lange verdedigingslinie rondom Amsterdam. De aanleg vond plaats tussen 1880 en 1914. De linie bestaat uit 46 forten en batterijen, verbonden door dijken of kades. De linie was bedoeld om de opmars van vijandelijke troepen tegen te houden. Bij oorlogsdreiging werd via een stelsel van sluizen het land langs de buitenkant van de linie onder water gezet, te ondiep voor schepen en te diep voor man en paard. Mocht de vijand toch blijven optrekken dan kon hij vanuit de forten en vanaf de kades beschoten worden.

You are looking for a 35mm-film canister. The cache is alongside a public road, so watch out for traffic! Bring your own pen/pencil. No parking at cache location, so park at the KDO parking lot, see waypoints. Keep to the public road and do not walk on top of the dike because of grazing sheep or other livestock. During some hours of the day there can be quite some traffic. Stay alert!
Damlock De Kwakel
This lock is part of the "Stelling van Amsterdam", the fortification of Amsterdan (see below). The lock was constructed around 1895 in the "Vuurlinie", the firing line, which was the dike between the south and north Legmeerpolder, and renovated in 2009. At the threat of war the south Legmeerpolder could be innundated by opening another lock. The damlock De Kwakel would then be closed by placing beams in the slots in the lock so the north Legmeerpolder would remain dry.
Stelling van Amsterdam
The "Stelling van Amsterdam" is a 135 kilometer line of defence fortifications surrounding the city of Amsterdam. Construction took place between 1880 and 1914. The line of defence consists of 46 fortresses and batteries, connected by dikes. The purpose of this line of defence was to stop the advancement of enemy troops. At the threat of war the land surrounding the outer perimeter of this line of defence would be innundated through a system of locks. The depth of the water would be too shallow for ships, but too deep for man and horse. In case the enemy troops were still advancing they could be fired upon from the fortresses and the dikes.
