This cache has been archived.

During a weekly check of my cache I discovered that someone has muggled the container. :-( There is no sign of the cache or contents.

Regrettably I will now have to archive the cache. :-(

A very big thanks to everyone that has visited and logged my cache. I enjoyed reading all of your logs.

Geocache Description:

LOCATION
Wandsworth Bridge crosses the River Thames with the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham on the North side of the river and the London Borough of Wandsworth on the South side of the river.

HISTORY OF WANDSWORTH BRIDGE
1873: The first Wandsworth Bridge opened. Designed by J.H. Tolmé. This bridge had a toll but was narrow and unable to carry buses. The bridge was a miserable failure and in 1880 was taken into public ownership and made toll-free.

1935: London County Council finally gave their consent for a new bridge. A temporary bridge was erected and the first bridge demolished.

1940: After some delay the present bridge opened. This steel cantilever bridge was designed by Sir Pierson Frank. At the time of its opening it was painted in dull shades of blue and grey as camouflage against air raids, a colour scheme it still retains.

30 March 2012
Underpass opened by Councillor Ravi Govindia MBE. This links the Thames Path with Pier Terrace. This gap under the bridge has been hidden for years and was used as a small workshop or storage.

Wandsworth Bridge marks the boundary upstream which speed limits on the Thames are strictly enforced. (8 knots) (15 km/h).

THE CACHE
This is an ideal cache for those exploring the Thames Path or finding out more about the many bridges along the river. Your task is to find the cache. This can only be done on foot or bike. Cars can not stop or park at cache location. (Use the underpass if you need to get to the correct side of the bridge.) Once found sign the log. You will need your own pen or pencil. Then put the container back as you found it. The hard part is can you do this without muggles seeing you?

If you are going to swap anything please make sure you put something back into the cache for others to find. Also log any swaps in the logbook or online so that I can keep track of what should be in or out of the cache.

#### Well Done to Tyke you are first to find and log my cache. 1 November 2011 ####

Good luck and look forward to reading your logs.
