Am Vulkanpark Informationszentrum liegt der Rauscherpark. Hier fliesst seit 200.000 Jahren die Nette rauschend durch den Lavastrom der Wannen Vulkangruppe. Der Lavastrom an der Rauschermühle (Standort) entstammt aus dem 2,5 km südlich gelegenen Vulkankomplex der Wannengruppe. Diese wird aus den „Eiterköpfen“, dem Michels- und Langenberg sowie den Wannenköpfen gebildet. Aus dem Vulkankomplex der Wannengruppe ist vor ca. 200.000 Jahren glutflüssige Lava in mehreren Teilströmen ausgeflossen. Dabei wurde das Nettetal mit Lava verfüllt. Ein bis zu 15m mächtiger Lavastrom floß dem Nettetal folgend 5 km nach Norden bis in die Gegend von Miesenheim. Der Fluss spülte im Laufe der Jahrtausende mächtige Basaltblöcke frei, über die das Wasser in kleinen Kaskaden fliesst. Basalt ist ein Ergussgestein. Es besteht vor allem aus einer Mischung von Eisen- und Magnesium-Silikaten mit Pyroxen und calciumreichem Feldspat (Plagioklas) sowie meist auch mit Olivin. Basalt entsteht, wenn dünnflüssiges, kieselsäurearmes Magma an der Erdoberfläche austritt und relativ schnell zu Basaltlava erkaltet. Seine Farbe ist gewöhnlich dunkelgrau bis schwarz. Wer genau hinschaut erkennt an dem Gestein noch die Spuren römischen Abbaus.
