Geocache Description:

This circuit takes you through farmland to the south and west of the village of Winterbourne Bassett. Some sections involve walking across fields so will vary in difficulty with the season and weather. The series is best completed on foot and in numerical order as the navigation is tricky in parts. Follow the link to the related web page to learn more about the bird featured in this cache.

Welcome to our first series of caches, set out to celebrate our imminent 1000 milestone and also our change of caching name from the tongue twisting 'dlegresley' to the much simpler 'Winter Foxes'

The route is about 6 miles long, starting on grassy paths, then around and across arable fields then back along a quiet country road. Allow 2.5-3 hours for the circuit. Not all the caches have a pencil in them so please bring your own pen/pencil.

Walking boots and long trousers are recommended and if it has been very wet, wellies might be advisable! Some of the caches are reachable with wheels but in general this series is for walkers only. Caches 5-8 and 10-12 are all accessed by walking across at least one arable field. We have set the terrain for all of these to 3, but it will vary from as low as 2 after a dry spell and when the footpath has been well trampled and/or mown to as high as 4 after a lot of rain and fresh ploughing.

This series links up three other local series - Broad Hinton, Clyffe Pypard Circular and Monkton Field, and there are also two other singles that you can visit en-route, namely our multi 'Winterbourne Bassett Church' GC2HJ4Q and the puzzle 'Did Harry make you Potty?' GC1ND04

Recommended parking is in the church car-park (please open and close the gate behind you), but some of the caches are also accessible from other possible parking locations if you prefer to visit it in sections, and/or make the access easier in bad weather.

The footpath starts out the back of the carpark at N51 28.366 W001 51.350

Several of the local farmers are supporting the RSPB North Wessex Farmland Bird Project so please do your bit and keep dogs on a lead and stick to the footpath even if it appears to head straight across a field! We have placed the caches and waypoints such that if you walk in a straight line between them you will be on the footpath.

One of the regular sized caches contains a first to find prize of a bird feeder and badge.

Congratulations to mikey72uk and Gavia Immer UK on their joint FTF.
