To locate the final you need to collect clues from specially selected caches in the series. Each clue should appear three times.
Then apply them to the formula (the 0 is a zero):
S 37 3D.B0(G-N) E 144 5(B-Z).K(K+N)D
Welcome to the Woodlands 100, a series of caches around the Woodlands Historic Park.
The Location
Parks Victoria describe the park as a "fascinating relic of the landscape that European settlers saw in the 1840s." There are photographs of these views both on the web, and at locations around the Park, particularly at the Homestead. These days there are much newer views across Melbourne suburbs, and in places you can watch large aeroplanes take off and land, right overhead!
The Park also includes an Eastern Barred Bandicoot enclosure at the Back Paddock, an Aboriginal Cemetery, an early 19th century Sanatorium site, and Gellibrand Hill, all of which are visited by this series. Note that the Back Paddock only has four gates, the locations of which are at each gate, and on the map referred to below. If you follow the series in order you should have no problems.
Wildlife includes lots of kangaroos and birds, and the Bandicoot. The latter are nocturnal and unlikely to be seen, but if you do please let us know! There are also some ex-champion racehorses around the Homestead. (Living Legends). We have avoided placing caches close to this area.
Preparation
Please remember to bring some food and water. The park can be fairly exposed, so a hat, sunscreen, and long sleeves (slip, slop, slap!) would be a good idea. The usual Australian warning of snakes in warm weather applies throughout the park, so wear good footwear and watch where you walk. Also be wary of putting your hands into places before looking!
Duration
We envisage that the this series will take most of the day on a bicycle, or a very long day by foot. It can not be done by any motorised vehicle. A horse could do most of it (tricky to get through the gates though!), Geodogs are allowed in most of the park, but not in the Back Paddock.
The Caches
Woodlands 100 is comprised of mostly Traditionals, with some short Multis, and a Final Mystery. The clues for the Final Mystery are included in caches around the Park. We wish we could remember which ones we put them in, but we guess you will have to check each ones. It is possible that some clues will be in more than one cache (it is so hard to keep track of these things!)
All cache containers (except the final), are 30ml clear plastic tubes (You'll get the idea after the first 20 or so!) They have a pencil and log, but no room for swaps. They are hidden in a wide variety of styles, so keep your minds open. While they will need to be looked for, they are designed to be found easily, and careful clues have been made available to assist in this.
Logging your find online
Cut and Paste is fine for all your finds except for the last one. We would like your comments in the last cache please. Any DNF's, please describe where you looked.
We are sorry that you can not share the fun we had putting this series out, but do hope that you enjoy it regardless. If you have time, a visit to the 1840's Homestead is well worthwhile also.
