A small water tight container with log sheet, pencil and official geocaching sticker. The cache is 13 km's upstream of the Chirundu bridges. Access is by Boat or Canoe. A river road running along the southern banks of the Zambezi is private and a permit is required. Temperatures are in the 40 to 50 deg during summer (Sept to Oct)
The cache is placed on the Zimbabwean banks of the mighty Zambezi River upstream of the Chirundu Bridges. This part of the Zimbabwean bank has an abundance of plains game including Impala, Waterbuck,and Kudu. The bird life is prolific on the large sandbank downstream of the cache, Look out for the saddle-bill stork,Open bill stork, Yellow bill stork and Maribou stork, The cry of the African Fish Eagle and chatter of the Long Tailed Glossy Starling will not be far away. White Fronted Bea eaters will keep you entertained as they dash out over the water to capture their prey. The most treasured site is that of the African Skimmer, a summer resident, whose graceful gliding and scooping of the water is a sight to witness.
Spend some time fishing and watching the antics of the hippos as they wallow in the shallows of the Zambezi or the baboons as they play on the sandbank.
Not far upstream you will see "C Camp" a concession camp privately owned. Permission to go beyond this point requires special National Parks permission.
Launch your boat at Chirundu or hire a boat from the local boat hire company. Half day and full day rates are available and experienced boat drivers are included. If you are considering a canoe trip this can be taken from Kariba to Chirundu, two nights canoeing, and an experience of a lifetime. Details of canoe trips can be found on line.
