The church of St Mary the Virgin, Brent Pelham is of medieval foundation. The present church with its walls of flint rubble and its tiled roof was built in the 14th century. The 15th century saw the construction of the west tower with its diagonal buttresses and Hertfordshire spike. The century also saw the installation of a rood screen, which was removed in later renovations, but some of the carved wooden tracery was used to form a tower screen, which can still be seen.
Inside the church on the north wall the tomb of Piers Shonks can be seen. More details of this interesting feature can be seen in our cache GC36KR6 - Piers Shonks.
Near the main gate of the church, the old stocks and whipping post can be seen.
The cache is a magnetic 35mm film canister and is not hidden within the church grounds. BYOP.
