Lingham Lake - portera Traditional Geocache

Our first visit here was a one day hike into "Bushwacker" and back out. It was our first ever 5/5 cache, and one of the more remote caches we had found at that point. It was a memorable adventure, and remains one of our favorite caches.

Since then, we have returned twice. We spent two days, and a night, slogging through mud, water, and ice during the spring melt, woken up to snow and heavy rain in the morning, and followed moose, bear and wolf tracks.

The trails here are rugged in spots. Some of them are littered with broken trees, and overgrown from lack of travel by the hunters that once frequented the camps. The "Lingham Lake Road", with it's notorious "Johnson's Hole" and all it's mud and water, is a highway in comparison to the trails further north.

Each visit here has been a different experience. Each season a different landscape. Each time a different challenge.

So now we present the intrepid cacher with a challenge.

There is no option of taking the easy route.

The 50 caches of Lingham Lake, are our tribute to the infamous "Bushwacker" and it's companion "Lingham". The caches stretch from the hydro line south of Lingham Lake, to beyond "Bushwacker", where the trail disappears completely into thick, unforgiving bush.

The series of caches will take you on a detour to the popular camping and fishing spot by the Lingham dam. A nice spot to enjoy a rest stop, check out the dam and have a snack. Then you'll be backtracking to the other trail... the much smaller ATV trail that leads further into the bush. The trail between the "Escott Hunt Camp & Spa", and the "High Bridge Hunt Camp" is still quite ATV friendly as it twists and turns around marshes, small lakes and beaver dams. Past the last hunt camp, it gets much more overgrown, and more rugged...

Bring a camera, just in case the wildlife here blesses you with their presence. And if you plan to attempt all the caches here in one trip, bring some camping gear.

Some of the caches are reachable from the trail. Some are well off the trail, and sometimes they are in challenging spots.

Up trees, in a swamp, down a creek, on an island...

Fortunately for us these caches were placed when the water levels here were the quite low.

The caches in this series have been named for the finders of "Bushwacker". However, with less than 50 visits to that cache, some of this series have yet to be properly named. When a geocacher logs their find on "Bushwacker", their caching name will be added to one of the unnamed caches. The caches have been named in no particular order. If a cacher wishes to have their name removed from the series, please notify me privately, not on the cache page.
