No Highway
In the 1980’s the then Transvaal Roads Department proposed a plan for a future network of six lane highways criss-crossing the Witwatersrand – Pretoria areas, to be constructed over the next 30 to 50 years.
One such highway was the “PW3,” planned to go from Rustenburg to the East Rand, right through Randburg and Sandton residential areas.
Vigorous public protests led by Ratepayer’s Committees got this Sandton Randburg portion discarded.
One of the results of this, left this secluded park.
Thus the Cache name, “No Highway”.
The park is well maintained by the Joburg Parks Department, and is used extensively by local residents, particularly to walk their dogs.
Enjoy the peace.
