Molde International Jazz Festival was established in 1961, and is one of the oldest jazz festivals in Europe. Moldejazz is a highlight for many citizens of Molde, and for guests from all over the country: During one week of July, the calm town transforms into an eldorado of music, people, sights and entertainment.
The festival has always been centered around jazz music, but there is room for plenty of other styles. World known artists have visited Moldejazz, such as Blues Brothers, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Gipsy Kings, Paul Simon, Santana, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige and Leonard Cohen.

Molde has recently taken the nickname "the blue city". This name was first used by writer Else Breen. It relates to the visual impression that the town and its surroundings provide.
The Molde panorama portrays islands and islets scattered across the blue fjord, lined by numerous of blue mountains. From Molde's most popular viewpoint, Varden, you can see 222 peaks, many of which are higher than 1000 moh. Even downtown at fjord level, you can see 87 peaks.
During the fall of 2011, the town was coloured more blue than ever, when the local soccer team, Molde fotballklubb, won the Norwegian top league for the first time ever.
Molde FK was established in 1911, which means that they won the most prestigious trophy in the year of their 100th anniversary. Prior to that, Molde FK had won seven silver medals in the top league, as well as two gold medals in the Norwegian Cup. However, it wasn't until the former star player of Molde FK and Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, returned to coach the team that they managed to win the top league.
