Geocache Description:

Melozi Hot Springs...and amazing place lost in time.

The real goal of this cache should be the journey...if you like hot springs, wilderness, history, exploration, adventure, and challenge, this cache will immediately jump to the top of your "dream cache" list.

The coordinates will take you to the hot springs. You will have to follow the directions to the cache.

Step one, if you stand at the memorial for Leonard Veerhusen and look north west you will see a building. Go to that building. It was the shop.

Step 2, (after looking at the interesting artifacts) Follow the trail west towards the creek about 150 steps to a cabin on the creek.

Step 3, on the downstream side of the cabin, look underneath. The box will appear.

Getting to the hot springs will not be easy. We took a commercial flight to Ruby with Warbelow's air service, hitched a ride with a local on a river boat 30 miles up the Yukon to Kokrines. Then we hiked up a cat trail 25 miles over the Kokrine hills to the hot springs. We then inflated our packrafts (packrafting.org) and floated down class II hot springs creek and class III melozi river (only 3 III rapids) for 70 miles back to Ruby. I am not good at blogging, but a few years back a group of intrepid explorers did a similar trip:

Be prepared for bugs. The grayling are hungry. Leave time for exploring the hotsprings. Be bear prepared.
